Never mind that the economic miracle only materialized 15 years later and after many of those privatizations were undone.

According to the "efficient market hypothesis" (dogma), building codes are a kind of tax and constitute government interference, so we should allow the market to--which is much more efficient (hard to not smile with irony here)--decide which building companies survive and prosper because those that build things that collapse will eventually be driven out of business (laughing at myself now).

The reality, of course, is more brutal. Those that build things more cheaply will prosper until.... things collapse and kill bunches of people, and then the tax payers will be asked to fix it all.
